Smaragdin
> The programme features seven Canadian independent animation films restored by the Cinémathèque québécoise. The programme notably includes Smaragdin, by Jean Letarte, which was in the official competition at the very first Annecy Festival in 1960. Long lost, the film was rediscovered in 2020 by Marco de Blois, in the light of the Festival’s 60th anniversary.
The seven Canadian independent animation films restored:
Smaragdin directed by Jean Letarte | Kidnappé directed and produced by Thomas Corriveau | Marie-coquette qui a ni chaud ni frette directed by Estelle Lebel, Mitsu Daudelin, Rachel Saint-Pierre | Objets perdus directed by Michel Gelinas, Michel Degagne | Old Orchard Beach P.Q. directed by Michèle Cournoyer | Téléphone directed by Luce Roy | Nice Day in the Country (Une belle journée à la campagne) directed by Christopher Hinton
Annecy gives attendees the opportunity to discover animated feature films and TV series in production during these Work in Progress sessions, as well as meeting the teams behind the projects and questioning them on their artistic choices, the production process and the challenges they are meeting along the way.
